Sign 1 – Excessive Guilt About the Past:

Is there something that you did in the past that constantly makes you feel guilty and remorseful until today?

Is there an event from your past you wish, above everything else, to change? Of course, none of us have access to a time machine so the facts are the facts.

Things happened in the past that many of us are not all that happy with. However, you take it to a whole other level. You’re just extremely guilty about it.

You feel that it basically defines who you are, where you’re going, what you’re capable of, and somehow some way poisons you’re relationships in the here and now. In fact, if you’re suffering from this, guilty thoughts about the past make up a significant percentage of your daily thoughts.

Sign 2 – Excessive Worry About the Future:

Everybody worries about the future. There, I said it. At some level or other, we don’t like that we can’t control the future.

So, many of us focus on how things could happen and what possible factors might come into play or things that we may not foresee. This is normal; however, you may be suffering from anxiety when you take things to a whole other level.

It’s as if your worry about something happening in the future takes a hold of you and refuses to let go. You’re worried about what other people would think and you’re just really going into fine detail in your head about the extreme personally disaster you stand to suffer when the thing you fear comes to pass.

This puts you in a very negative emotional space. You have a tough time coping with your present-day responsibilities, duties, and obligations because you’re just paranoid about things that could happen in the future.

The fact that they don’t play out the way you initially feared them to doesn’t really set your mind at ease because once wants the thing that you fear doesn’t happen by a certain date, you then move on to another future point in time.

It’s as if you’re kicking the can down the road as far as your mental peace and inner harmony go. You are never at a loss for things to worry about when it comes to the future. If any of this is true, then you might be suffering from anxiety.

Sign 3 – You Can’t Make Up Your Mind:

It’s okay to be indecisive. When most rational people don’t think that they have all the necessary facts in front of them, it’s perfectly okay for them to second-guess themselves.

At the very least, they feel kind of uneasy about what kind of decision they would make because they have incomplete
information.

On the other hand, if you have a tough time making up your mind altogether, then you may be dealing with a completely different problem. Even if you put in all the work and the time to gather information and still you can’t make up your mind, you might be suffering from anxiety.

You might be focused more on the consequences of making the wrong decision. Instead of making sure that all the
information is lined up properly so you can make better decisions, you focus instead on some sort of guarantee.

I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you but the future is never guaranteed. Even if you have the best-laid plans and even if you’ve taken all sorts of precautions things, can and do get knocked loose.

That’s just what makes life so unpredictable and, if you think about it hard enough, so much fun. However, if you can’t make up your mind, regardless of any advanced preparation you’ve made, you may be suffering from excess anxiousness.

Sign 4 – You’re Constantly Blaming Other People of Situation for What’s Wrong in Your Life:

It’s very easy to blame other people or situations for our personal failures. Seriously.

It feels good actually because when we do that, we no longer have to change. We can say to ourselves, “Well, I’m right” or “I’m the victim here.” This relieves us of any responsibility to change.

However, the problem with blaming other people or situations that we can’t control for our failures is simply going to extend our powerlessness.

Anxious people or people with high levels of anxiety find themselves blaming other people or situations for whatever is going. The more they do this, the less in control they feel.

It’s as if their world has spun out of control. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why. When you place blame on somebody else, you’re basically saying to yourself that the solution lies with that person.

After all, that person caused your problems, then it logically follows that they are the ones who could put everything back together. This is a worthless solution because you can’t control that person.

They’ve moved on. You have to take responsibility. You have to take ownership of your pain, your past, and your coping mechanism. This is too much for many people and that’s why they remain stuck. This breeds anxiety and a sense that one
doesn’t really control one’s life.

Sign 5 – You Find Yourself Giving Up too Easily:

Life is a struggle even if you have even if you tend to make things happen and it doesn’t take much for things that you plan to become reality, there’s still some struggle involved.

There’s always that bit of uncertainty. You really can’t tell what’s around the corner. You may be suffering from anxiety when you find yourself unable to cope with whatever setbacks life throws your way.

You have to understand that in most cases, life doesn’t slam a door to your face and give you a resounding NO! Most of the time, life will tell you to wait. It’s neither yes nor no. It’s neither here nor there.

You just have to wait. Usually, people who succeed find things to do while they’re waiting. They build their character. They try other opportunities. They do something else that enables them to achieve victory when the time for “yes” comes.

Anxious people, on the other hand, worry themselves sick. They think that there’s something wrong with them. They think they don’t have what it takes.

Maybe they’re just unlucky or they’re going up against a situation that is just flat-out impossible. Perhaps they’re just at the wrong place, at the wrong time, doing the wrong things.

Whatever the case may be, it all leads to the same place: defeat. This is not defeat that life hands you. It’s not like life beats you down. No, this is a defeat that you voluntarily assume. I’m talking about quitting.

As the old saying goes, the only way to lose is to quit. You may be suffering from anxiety if you find yourself solving” hard situations in your life by quickly choosing to quit.

Sign 6 – When You Get Excited About Something and Meet Any Kind of Opposition, You Give Up:

This is very different from #5. What’s different with this sign is that it doesn’t matter what kind of opposition you face.

We’re not talking about a door slamming in your face. We’re not talking about people pointing at you and laughing and telling you to get out of here. No, we’re talking about a slight kind of opposition.

Maybe you’re emailing a job application and you mistyped the email address of the HR department you’re trying to reach. Your email comes back and you see that as a devastating blow so you quit.

Sign #6 is all about hypersensitivity to any kind of discouragement. This speaks to a mindset that views reality as extremely hostile. You feel that the world is just so unfair and so messed that no matter how hard you try, nothing is going to work.

However, it turns out that a lot of the “crushing disappointments” that life deals you are not really all that crushing. They’re ministerial. They’re small. They just need you to pivot, reposition yourself, and try slightly harder.

Most people are able to get over this hurdle but you, on the other hand, blow up these disappointments to life-crushing condemnations of your value as a person.

This can be a strong sign that you’re suffering from anxiety because you’re anxiety blows up even the smallest disappointment into the biggest life failure.

Sign 7 – You Expect Life to be Smooth and Get Disappointed Easily:

By expecting life to be fair, you are setting yourself up for massive disappointment again and again.

Life was never fair nor is life smooth. Oftentimes, to get to point B, you don’t go from point A to point B with a straight line. Usually, life is full of detours and, believe it or not, when you look at different sites as you go on one detour after another, you have a good time.

You see the many sides of life. Unfortunately, you’re suffering from anxiety. You don’t see any of that. Instead, you see life as this bitter rejection.

Everybody else has it smooth but you, on the other hand, have to suffer the humiliation of being denied again and again. While other people see the adventure behind these denials and detours, you see only soul-crushing defeat.

Sign 8 – You Automatically Assume People are not to be Trusted:

When you encounter any kind of setback, it’s very easy for you to personalize it.

It’s very easy for you to think that the human resources chairperson who is in charge of hiring you simply has it in for you. Maybe they don’t like your haircut.

Perhaps they don’t like the tone of your voice. Possibly, they don’t like where you come from or anything else peculiar and unique to you. This is your default because the opposite is just too much to take.

What is the opposite? It’s obvious. Maybe you said something wrong. Perhaps you did send the wrong signals during the job interview. That’s too much to take because that means that there’s something wrong with you and you have to change so you get anxious.

You get this free-floating suspicion that people simply just have it in for you and cannot really be trusted. You have a tough time opening up and this creates a vicious cycle.

You have a tough time times opening up and you send negative signals. People respond negatively and you go down the drain. This feeds your anxiety big time.

Sign 9 – You Have a Tough Time Trusting Yourself:

Everybody has a sense of intuition. Intuition is a big part of being at the right place at the right time doing the right things to produce the right impression.

In other words, if you learn how to trust yourself, you tend to perform better. Unfortunately, if you are suffering from anxiety, you’re less likely to trust yourself.

You have a low view of your ability to respond in favorable way. Maybe this is due to all the negative feedback loops
that have happened to you. You find yourself on the negative end of downward spirals.

So, you feel that there’s something fundamentally you’re wrong with you. Of course, you’re having a tough time admitting but there’s as deep distrust there.

You then hold back and this leads to you sending less effective signals or even negative signals and you find yourself in the same tough spot. It’s as if no matter how hard you try to put your life together, nothing seems to happen because you’re just receiving all these negative things.

Sign 10 – You Automatically Believe that You Don’t Have What it Takes to Take Care of a Project or Handle a Situation:

When faced with a challenge, you automatically doubt your capability to withstand it and overcome it. You keep thinking about the past.

You keep thinking about how you drop the ball or mishandled similar situations. You end up doubting yourself over and over until you find yourself in yet another self fulfilling prophecy.

You end up with precisely the things that you feared would happen. If at least two of these ten signs are present in your life, take a long, hard look at how you process things and you might be surprised if there are other signs present. If so, you may be suffering from anxiety.
